AuthorRachael Warham Football has gone mad and if the game ever needed further evidence to support this claim then Liverpool's signing of Mohamed Salah from AS Roma will only strengthen this notion.
The Reds broke the club's transfer record this week after they splashed out £39 million on the Egyptian winger, believing his acquisition will propel them into title contenders. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer
The Chinese Super League transfer window is open and there’s plenty of speculation over big name players potentially making the lucrative move to the cashed up league. Although the government has put a cap on the level of spending there is still plenty of opportunity for players to move with clubs still looking to splash the cash.
However, what about the players that have already made the jump to Asia? There are already a few big name players currently playing in the CSL. So after 14 games of the 2017 season how are some of them doing? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer There has been plenty of paper talk this week regarding potential reforms to footballs rules.
These ideas have been put forward to the four British home football associations - of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – who are responsible for making the final decision on law changes. While the scrapping of 45 minute halves has generated the most attention there are a raft of other proposed changes being put forward by lawmaking body - the International Football Association Board, that make quite a bit of sense. The main theme of the rule changes is to improve player behaviour, increase the playing time and increase fairness. Here are few that could really improve the game: AuthorJeffEyesRimmer So it seems like that this summer’s transfer window is going to become the most ludicrous of all time. The money being discussed is beyond ridiculous and it’s gone from the obscene to now surreal.
I mean $60 million for a defender that only last season was valued at $13million! Nearly $100 for an 18 year old that has one good season, crazy times. Talk of $183 million for Morata and Ronaldo, mental. While I understand that the fees being bandied about are the result of whatever the market value is there must be a better way? Well we just so happen to have another system that works in place - the draft system. I know I know it would never be implemented in Europe etc. like it is in the USA but could it work? How could it be implemented? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Continuing our recent theme of transfer articles there are a fair number of players that desperately need transfers to reinvigorate their careers. However, instead of focusing on players like Luke Shaw or Kieran Gibbs that need a move to improve I thought I would look at a few players that have fallen off the radar.
I’m talking about players that I had actually forgotten played football. I have also listed are few teams that might be good destinations for these players. So let’s start: AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Often regarded as the forerunner for the World Cup; the Confederations Cup acts a bit of a test run for the host nation. Often considered more of a distraction but it seems that the majority of sides are taking this competition seriously this year, with most of the teams sending their strongest squads. The winners from the various football associations around the world will compete over the next few weeks. The 10th iteration of this competition will be held in Russia and is contested by the holders of each of the six (UEFA, CONMEBOL,CONCACAF, CAF, AFC, OFC) regional championships, along with the FIFA World Cup holder and the host nation, to bring the number of teams up to eight. Below is a preview of the sides and how I think they will go in the tournament. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Now that the season has finished for 2017 (in most leagues) eyes turn to next season. There has been plenty of transfer rumours already with talk of big money moves for Gareth Bale, Antoine Griezmann, Kylian MBappe and Virgil Van Dijk.
While Manchester City attempt to buy the entire of the Monaco first team and Manchester United are linked with every player under the sun there have already been a number of transfers that you might have missed. Below are a few transfers that have gone unnoticed in the current transfer climate of $60+ million players. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer From the school playground to the office to the pub we as fans often chat about who is the best in the world or who is the best player ever was. Depending on your generation and the amount of football you watch those answers can differ greatly.
However, if there was any doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo’s name should be mentioned in the same breath as greats like Pele, Maradona, Peter Crouch and Johan Cruyff then that was dispelled after Real Madrid’s Champions League victory this weekend just gone. |
