AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Now that the season has finished for 2017 (in most leagues) eyes turn to next season. There has been plenty of transfer rumours already with talk of big money moves for Gareth Bale, Antoine Griezmann, Kylian MBappe and Virgil Van Dijk. While Manchester City attempt to buy the entire of the Monaco first team and Manchester United are linked with every player under the sun there have already been a number of transfers that you might have missed. Below are a few transfers that have gone unnoticed in the current transfer climate of $60+ million players. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - Schalke to Ajax Free
The 33 year old has returned to Ajax where he made his name between 2006 and 2009. The Dutchman only made seven appearances for Schalke last term, scoring 2 goals, however, a total of 126 goals in 240 games for Schalke prove what a valuable player he has been for the Budesliga club. The striker scored 102 goals last time out with Ajax and his experience will certainly help the brilliant young players coming through. Darren Fletcher - West Brom to Stoke Free Ok this one really did come out of nowhere. Fletcher had a good season for West Brom last season and Stoke have looked shaky in midfield. We have said previously that a good defensive midfielder with a cool head would be of great benefit to Stoke and in Fletcher they certainly have that now. The 33 year may allow Joe Allen to better use his passing and overall it seems like a good fit for Stoke. Asmir Begovic - Chelsea to Bournemouth Undisclosed This might turn into one of the best signings of the season. The cherries have gone a picked up a quality keeper with an EPL winner’s medal. Begovic is a dead certain upgrade on both Artur Boruc and Adam Federici (although both have been decent servants). Pablo Zabaleta - Manchester City to West Ham Free Nine years in Manchester the Argentinian has moved on a free transfer to the capital. Zabaleta was a bit on the wane last season but he will be an experienced head in a defence that simply lost theirs at times last season. The 32 year old is coming to the end of his career but he showed he still has quite a bit to give, with an average of 2.1 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 2.1 clearances per game. Youri Tielemans Anderlecht - Monaco £21.63m Monaco were quick to replace Bernardo Silva with a big money signing of their own. Not a like for like replacement but if Tielemans can replicate even a portion of what he achieved with Anderlecht this season then Monaco will have another gem on their hands. Tielemans scored 13 goals in the league last term and another five in Europe. Ive said it before but I think this kid is going to be a star. Any other transfers that have gone under the radar you know of that I have missed, let us know? |
