AuthorJeffEyesRimmer The waiting is finally over and the 2018 World Cup has begun. It has started with a bang too, Russia running out 5 – 0 victor’s over a rather lacklustre Saudi Arabia.
There are a total of 736 players who could feature at the World Cup and we are in an era now when real unknown players are hard to come by. The internet, most leagues being televised globally and even Football Manager means that not many players slip under the radar. However, there are few players that could have a breakout tournament and make a name for themselves. Here are a few youngsters at the World Cup to keep an eye out for. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer While much of our attention is now focused on the big event this summer in Russia there is another World Cup about to start in London on the 31st May – The CONIFA World Cup.
CONIFA stands for the Confederation of Independent Football Associations and are for states, minorities, stateless peoples and regions unaffiliated with FIFA. That’s putting it politely; they are in reality not recognised by FIFA. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer The World Cup is looming and only a few weeks away now.
The national squads are being finalised, with the majority of sides now having announced their 23-man squads. With these squads there was always going to be some players that missed out and this World Cup will see some big name players not plying their trade in Russia. Here are some of the big names that will not be at the World Cup this time out: AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Well we are unfortunately coming to the end of the season (in most leagues) and thoughts of the chairmen, managers, players and fans inevitably turn to what could be in store for next season.
The big name transfers will grab the headlines and players and their agents will bat their eye lashes at the cashed up clubs looking for a big pay day, especially with the World Cup in the summer. However, not all clubs can go and spend $60 million on a new player (I cant believe I wrote $60million!) So who are the potential best free agents available at the end of year that could add that extra spark to your team? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer After the humiliating defeat in the League Cup final against Manchester City many fans and pundits alike questioned Arsene Wenger’s managerial abilities. It wasn’t just the defeat that was the problem; it was the manner of defeat that had fans frothing. It was lame and directionless and two subsequent losses since then now leave Arsenal unlikely to finish anywhere near the haloed top four.
In fact at the time of writing they are closer to Bournemouth in 12th than Liverpool in 2nd. Burnley are now only five points away from Arsenal and they had their first win in 12 games this past weekend. That speaks volumes for the kind of form Arsenal have been in. There have been plenty of calls for Wenger to step down as manager. Here at Football Outcasts HQ we have always been of the opinion that coming consistently 4-6th in the EPL, providing occasional trophies, being financially solvent and being in Europe consistently was something for fans to laud rather than moan about. However, the key question for us has always been – Who do you replace Wenger with if you sack him? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Here is Part 2 of our look at the World Cup groups (Part 1 is here).
Germany go into the tournament as big favourites, can they go back to back? Will Belgium finally become a team and utilize the talent they have in their squad? Will England be able to make it out of their group this time? Groups E through to H are below: AuthorJeffEyesRimmer The groups have been decided for next year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia and there are some really interesting match ups to come.
There is a bit of Iberian flavour to Group B, who will win that battle of the peninsula? Will Australia be able to get some revenge on Peru - the conquerors of their trans-Tasman brothers? Can Argentina erase the recent humiliation at the hands of Nigeria? Who will be relatively pleased with their groups and which one is the group of death? Below in Part 1 we review the first four groups and look at the various match ups for next year’s showcase. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer In keeping with our previous posts on Star Wars Football Kits (here) and also Game of Thrones Football Kits (here) another set of fantasy kits have been designed and this time for a slightly different set of fans.
The new Justice League movie comes out on the 15th November here in Australia and artist Vassilis Dimitros has come up with some truly beautiful football kits. However, not only has he designed the kits for the various super heroes in the movie but has named the teams, provided badges and gone into their history just a little bit. Its stellar work and deserves recognition! AuthorJeffEyesRimmer The W-League kicks off for its 10th iteration this week, so it’s time for another season preview.
The league will have more double headers with the men’s game and greater media coverage after increased interest nationally. I think we can thank the exploits of the Matildas for that. Aussie superstar Sam Kerr also stated this week that the W-League is on par with the American game, big call but if you are going to believe anyone then it’s the Matilda striker. A few months back we featured a brilliant artist on this page with an article about their designs for Game Of Thrones football kits.
That article is here if you want to check it out: http://footballoutcasts.weebly.com/articles/games-of-thrones-football-kits Well the artist - Nerea Palacios has produced another set of fantasy style kits, this time for another pretty big fandom - Star Wars! |
