AuthorJeffEyesRimmer At the beginning of last season and during the January transfer window we highlighted that in defence and in particular the full backs, were key areas for Manchester City to upgrade on this summer. To be fair, anyone who watched Man City last season would have realised this as well. Man City and Pep not addressing this issue this summer would have been negligent.
That being said - Manchester City have gone crazy! They have signed the most expensive goal keeper of all time in Ederson and with the capture of Benjamin Mendy this week they now have the two most expensive defenders of all time as well. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Basically the whole world is excited for the new season of Game of Thrones and I count myself among that number.
So it was with great joy I came across Nerea Palacios designs this past week. Palacios is a sports and apparel designer and has combined Game of Thrones with Football to create some brilliant designs for concept Nike football kits for the various Houses from the fantasy series (like the one above). I was quite excited by these and couldn’t believe I hadn’t come across them before so I thought I would share the amazing designs with you all. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer As well as the Confederations Cup this summer there is another international tournament that kicked off this past week – The Women’s European Championships.
There are more teams, more prize money and more coverage of the tournament, making it the biggest Euros so far. This is the 12th women’s Euro tournament and it is being hosted by the Netherlands for the first time. They kicked off the tournament with a solid 1-0 win over former winners Norway on Sunday and there are high hopes for the home side in the tournament. There are 16 teams playing at the Euros, with five teams competing for the first time. As well as the Netherlands though who are the other favourites to take home the trophy? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer
We have a new ongoing series for you that will all be about players you may not have necessarily heard of but have done pretty fantastic, interesting and/or odd things.
First up we thought we would focus on one of Asian footballs finest ever footballers - Therdsak Chaiman. Not a name that many of you may have heard of we reckon. So why Therdsak and why be the first on our player profile list? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer The recent Confederations Cup won by Germany trialled the use of the video assistant referee system (VAR) to varying degrees of success. The VAR system was supposed to provide ‘minimum interference, maximum benefit’ to the tournament and - if successful - football as a whole. Unfortunately, it generated more questions than answers even if the FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, said that it had been a “great success”.
AuthorBoth Outcasts They say you should never go back to your ex (I mean they are an ex for a reason right?), but after 13 years Wayne Rooney is returning to his first club, Everton.
His time at Manchester United saw him achieve five league titles, an FA Cup, three League Cups, the Champions League, the Europa League and a Club World Cup. He literally won everything he could at the club! He also became the top goal scorer for United and England. Not a bad return from his 13 years in Manchester. At his peak he was one of the best players in the world and now coming towards the end of his career he will return to his boyhood club. So is it a good move? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Over the past several seasons, three in fact, a behemoth of a European football has been missing from the Champions League – AC Milan.
It has been a great shame that AC Milan have not been in the premier competition in Europe, especially for someone who grew up during the 1990s watching some of the legends of the game play for the Rossoneri. Players like Paolo Maldini, Clarence Seedorf, George Weah and Filippo Inzaghi. The club is the fourth most successful club in the world, with 18 officially recognised UEFA and FIFA titles and so seeing this great club going through hard times has been quite sad. AC Milan’s last title victory came six years ago and since then they have dropped substantially with their final league positions being 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 10th, 7th and then finally 6th this season. |
