AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Well we are unfortunately coming to the end of the season (in most leagues) and thoughts of the chairmen, managers, players and fans inevitably turn to what could be in store for next season. The big name transfers will grab the headlines and players and their agents will bat their eye lashes at the cashed up clubs looking for a big pay day, especially with the World Cup in the summer. However, not all clubs can go and spend $60 million on a new player (I cant believe I wrote $60million!) So who are the potential best free agents available at the end of year that could add that extra spark to your team? Below are few players that are coming out of contract that could improve teams from relegation fodder to tittle challengers. Stefan de Vrij (CB, Lazio) Stefan de Vrij is probably the highest profile player on this list and the probably the most sought after. The defender has been a rock at Lazio and helped them reach the quarter finals of the Europa League this season. The 26 year old is still young and learning his craft but is averaging 2x tackles and a massive 4.5 clearances per game in Serie A this season. He would be a welcome addition to most backlines. Emre Can (DM, Liverpool) The 23 year old is sometimes brilliant, sometimes awful but often goes under the radar for the work he does to allow the amazing front three of Liverpool to grab the headlines. Can is possibly heading to Juventus in the summer and the midfielder would certainly not be out of place in that side. With an average of 2.6 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 86% passing completion he could really add some youth to an aging Juventus side. He has also provided 3 goals and 4 assists in the EPL this season, not bad at all. Bernard (Shakhtar Donetsk) A target for Manchester City in the recent transfer window, the Brazilian left winger will be a target for plenty with his contract coming to an end in the Ukraine. He has 15 caps for Brazil and it will be interesting to see if he goes to the World Cup in Russia. With the plethora of attacking talent Brazil has I wouldn’t be surprised to see him not go. With others in the shop window for the big clubs to fight over this might allow smaller clubs to pick him up on the cheap. Luke Shaw (Man United)
It’s hard not to feel a little sorry for Shaw at United. Since returning from his horrific injury he has been in and out of the team at Old Trafford. Publicly lambasted by Jose on several occasions I kind of want him to leave United and be brilliant at another club. He is still very young and based on his sporadic appearances for the club he will be a great left back. A change of scenery would likely be good for him in the end; a manger that’s willing to put his arm around him and properly coach him rather than slay him in the media is just what the lad needs. João Moutinho (Monaco) The European Championship winner seems like he’s been around forever but he is still only 31. The midfielder has 6 assists this season for Monaco in the league and an 86% passing completion rate. Plenty of teams would jump at the chance to sign the midfielder to add a bit of creativity to their team. He is probably not at the elite level anymore but mid-table sides should certainly be sniffing around, or maybe a move to China? Some other notable players that are off contract this year and will have a number of suitors include Arjen Robben, Kwadwo Asamoah, Jack Wilshere, Hatem Ben Arfa, Mario Balotelli, Giorgio Chiellini and Franck Ribéry Who else is out of contract this year that you think could be a good bargain? There are certainly some players that would be bargains on Football Manager this year! |
