AuthorJeffEyesRimmer There has been plenty of coverage this past month on the FIFA World Cup next year in Russia, what with the qualifiers finishing and the World Cup groups being drawn.
Well there was a different football World Cup that was held this year, one that I was even fortunate enough to attend. That tournament was the Homeless World and it was held in Oslo back in August and September. I was fortunate to be in Oslo for the start of the tournament, getting to see the opening parade and ceremony, watch tonnes of matches and even get to speak with the Wales management and players. So what is the Homeless World Cup and how does it all work? AuthorSports Billy As much as we love the beautiful game here at the Football Outcasts, there are many aspects of the modern game that grate and at times make it difficult to enjoy the game we all know and love.
Having given some of our biggest gripes some thought over the last few weeks, below are list of our biggest hates and how we – the Football Outcasts – would go about improving the sport when we are inevitably asked to head FIFA! AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Here is Part 2 of our look at the World Cup groups (Part 1 is here).
Germany go into the tournament as big favourites, can they go back to back? Will Belgium finally become a team and utilize the talent they have in their squad? Will England be able to make it out of their group this time? Groups E through to H are below: AuthorJeffEyesRimmer The groups have been decided for next year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia and there are some really interesting match ups to come.
There is a bit of Iberian flavour to Group B, who will win that battle of the peninsula? Will Australia be able to get some revenge on Peru - the conquerors of their trans-Tasman brothers? Can Argentina erase the recent humiliation at the hands of Nigeria? Who will be relatively pleased with their groups and which one is the group of death? Below in Part 1 we review the first four groups and look at the various match ups for next year’s showcase. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer It is looking more and more likely that Everton are going to resort to Sam Allardyce to turn their season around. With West Hams recent appointment of David Moyes and the appointment of Alan Pardew at West Brom, that would make it three for three for uninspired appointments recycling the same old Premier League “proper football men”. These three appointments are about as underwhelming and disappointing as you can get and we’ve said as much on the pod several times in recent weeks. Has there ever been so much reward for so much failure?
Back in January there was outrage from certain areas of the media over the appointment of Marco Silva at Hull City and then again when he was appointed manager at Watford. We discussed it in this article here, but the outrage was around how could this foreign manager come in and get the job over young British managers. However, it is not ‘foreigners’ that are the barrier to young managers getting more coveted jobs. It’s the older British managers that are constantly recycled through the leagues unfashionable lesser sides that are the barrier. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer That makes it twelve wins from thirteen games with a single draw thrown in there. Manchester City are showing they are the team to beat in this English Premier League title race so far this season.
On this form, can they repeat Arsenals achievement of an invincible season? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer We now know the teams that will be competing at the World Cup next year in Russia and while those teams will certainly be looking forward to it much of the talk this past week has been about the teams missing out on the tournament.
Traditional big sides like Italy and Netherlands have missed out, along with South American and Confederations Cup Champions Chile. Ivory Coast and Cameroon are big misses from Africa and another big shock was the USA not qualifying. However, a few days after the final teams were confirmed for Russia 2018 a suggestion was made on social media of a potential ‘Losers’ Cup. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer In keeping with our previous posts on Star Wars Football Kits (here) and also Game of Thrones Football Kits (here) another set of fantasy kits have been designed and this time for a slightly different set of fans.
The new Justice League movie comes out on the 15th November here in Australia and artist Vassilis Dimitros has come up with some truly beautiful football kits. However, not only has he designed the kits for the various super heroes in the movie but has named the teams, provided badges and gone into their history just a little bit. Its stellar work and deserves recognition! AuthorJeffEyesRimmer We will soon know the remainder of the teams that will be contesting the Russia FIFA World Cup in 2018, with the final games being played in the next week or so. Ever since the announcement of Russia being granted the right to host World Cup in 2018 there has been plenty of coverage of the problems it will face.
There have been many articles, radio calls, podcasts and general discussions about the appropriateness of Russia hosting the World Cup and the legality around the selection of them at FIFA headquarters. It seems that the majority of the football world considers it likely to be an awful World Cup. However, putting aside those (many) arguments for a minute, what are the reasons why the FIFA World Cup in 2018 in Russia will be a success? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer The FIFA World Cup Qualifiers are nearly over and we are now into the World Cup Playoff stage this week. Will the Socceroos make it to their fourth World Cup in a row? Will Northern Ireland upset the odds? Will we be missing the Italians in Russia next year? The full list of teams heading to Russia for the World Cup 2018 will soon be known.
The first leg of the play-off ties will be played over November 9-11, with the second legs promptly following on November 12-15. Below is our preview for each of the games: |
