AuthorJeffEyesRimmer The new season of the Chinese Super League begins this week and it was confirmed that another of the leagues so called big name imports will be leaving the league, likely before the season kicks off.
This week Alex Teixeira was placed on the transfer list by his club Jiangsu Suning and it is widely reported he will be heading back to Brazil with Corinthians. It marks the end of another big name foreign import in the Chinese Super League that has failed to make the grade. Has the cashed up clubs bubble finally burst, have the clubs been burnt enough now to know throwing $50million at a player will not make the club or league a better product really? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Quite a number of fans, including us here at Football Outcasts, are not the greatest lovers of the International friendlies that seem to interrupt the domestic season.
Well it seems UEFA have taken this to heart and come up with a competition that they hope will replace the meaningless friendlies and generate more interest from fans. Its call the Nation League and it will provide a back door entry into future European Championships too, so it’s worth understanding its permutations. So what is the Nation’s League? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Late last year the Spanish League La Liga signed a deal with the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia (GSA) and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), the governing body for football there.
It was a deal that seemed to go a bit under the radar at the time but with the transfer window in January now open this deal has been thrust into the spotlight a bit more. A total of nine Saudi Arabian players have been loaned to Spanish clubs all within the space of a few days (so far). So what was this deal? AuthorJeffEyesRimmer We have often discussed our ideas on how to improve the game generally and even improve the English Premier League but there is a league much closer to home that needs improvement and that’s the A-League.
The A-League has gone from strength to strength over the past 10 years, this season has seen some wonderful football (especially from Sydney FC) but there seems to be a consensus among fans that this season has been a bit flat and bit stale. So what are some of the changes that could and in my opinion should happen to improve the game in Australia: AuthorJeffEyesRimmer ESports has become very popular across the world, so much so that currently the global market was recently valued at nearly $493 million.
So it shouldn't come as a surprise that just before Christmas the A-League here in Australia announced that they will be holding the first E-League later this year that will use EA's FIFA gaming franchise as the basis for the competition. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer There has been plenty of coverage this past month on the FIFA World Cup next year in Russia, what with the qualifiers finishing and the World Cup groups being drawn.
Well there was a different football World Cup that was held this year, one that I was even fortunate enough to attend. That tournament was the Homeless World and it was held in Oslo back in August and September. I was fortunate to be in Oslo for the start of the tournament, getting to see the opening parade and ceremony, watch tonnes of matches and even get to speak with the Wales management and players. So what is the Homeless World Cup and how does it all work? AuthorSports Billy As much as we love the beautiful game here at the Football Outcasts, there are many aspects of the modern game that grate and at times make it difficult to enjoy the game we all know and love.
Having given some of our biggest gripes some thought over the last few weeks, below are list of our biggest hates and how we – the Football Outcasts – would go about improving the sport when we are inevitably asked to head FIFA! AuthorJeffEyesRimmer Here is Part 2 of our look at the World Cup groups (Part 1 is here).
Germany go into the tournament as big favourites, can they go back to back? Will Belgium finally become a team and utilize the talent they have in their squad? Will England be able to make it out of their group this time? Groups E through to H are below: AuthorJeffEyesRimmer The groups have been decided for next year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia and there are some really interesting match ups to come.
There is a bit of Iberian flavour to Group B, who will win that battle of the peninsula? Will Australia be able to get some revenge on Peru - the conquerors of their trans-Tasman brothers? Can Argentina erase the recent humiliation at the hands of Nigeria? Who will be relatively pleased with their groups and which one is the group of death? Below in Part 1 we review the first four groups and look at the various match ups for next year’s showcase. AuthorJeffEyesRimmer It is looking more and more likely that Everton are going to resort to Sam Allardyce to turn their season around. With West Hams recent appointment of David Moyes and the appointment of Alan Pardew at West Brom, that would make it three for three for uninspired appointments recycling the same old Premier League “proper football men”. These three appointments are about as underwhelming and disappointing as you can get and we’ve said as much on the pod several times in recent weeks. Has there ever been so much reward for so much failure?
Back in January there was outrage from certain areas of the media over the appointment of Marco Silva at Hull City and then again when he was appointed manager at Watford. We discussed it in this article here, but the outrage was around how could this foreign manager come in and get the job over young British managers. However, it is not ‘foreigners’ that are the barrier to young managers getting more coveted jobs. It’s the older British managers that are constantly recycled through the leagues unfashionable lesser sides that are the barrier. |
